Music from The Lester Family
The Lester Family, a professionally musical family, are treasured friends from our Joshua Tree days. Steve and Darlene (a long-time La Leche League leader) have 5 now-grown sons. These recordings caught a precious period of the family’s history when all the boys still had high voices. Our family easily learned their music and enjoyed endless hours of singing thanks to inspiration from the Lester Family.
Offered are two CDs promoting the breastfeeding relationship and healthy family ideals and two educational CDs so you can learn to successfully teach your family, homeschoolers, or class, how to sing in 2, 3, and 4 part harmony. Lyrics included. See our website for a listing of the songs. Note: children can generally learn to sing rounds and engage in part singing at about 9 or 10 years old.
Only My Mama
In relation to a woman's entire life, her nursing experience is a brief one. Too brief! It is a sweet but poignant interlude between the self-centered life of a young woman and the busy, sometimes trying life of a mother with growing children. This CD was made to honor mothers and babies, their unique relationship as a nursing couple, and baby's relationship to the family. The lyrics are entertaining and the tunes catchy.
One More Person to Love
Aside from promoting and supporting the breastfeeding relationship in a loving family, this CD has a broader purpose: to promote ideals. It is the goal of Steve and Darlene to support what you really want your children to learn and be: people who treat others the way they want to be treated, people who can truly commit in relationships and rise above difficulties, people who look for and praise the good in others, people who respond with nurturing ideals. It is our hope this CD of beautiful songs helps towards that end.
Traditional Rounds, Canons and Harmonies
One of the best ways we know of to bring a group together for fun and harmony is to sing rounds. It simply dissolves conflict! This is something The Lesters employed in their family to help establish harmony among siblings. It's also a great way to pass the time enjoyably in the car. So join them in song, and learn 22 traditional rounds and canons.
Homestyle Harmony
The next step after Traditional Rounds and Canons. Now each person has to sing completely different notes from the other singers, resulting in 2, 3, and 4 part harmony. This is an exciting step! They use a unique method to teach you these songs. First, each part (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) is sung separately and then all together. By hearing your part "lifted out" of the group, you can memorize it and then you'll be able to sing along with them in the ensemble. Try it, it’s as easy as it sounds and you'll find it exhilarating and deeply satisfying!
