The Pentatonic Scale: "The scale spans over five whole tone steps and is built up by an open fifth tuning. The special thing about this scale is that whatever you do with it will always sound good.
"A light, almost heavenly scale that allows you to create music freely without the frustrating struggle with wrong notes or inharmonious sound. The experience of the five tone scale is fundamental in all music and found in new and ancient folk music, classical pieces as well as in popular music.
"Children all over the world spontaneously sing it in various ways. For this reason it is the adult's obvious companion in the work with children. From infancy up to third grade, this scale meets the child's inner need." Auris of Sweden

Choroi Pentatonic Flute - two models
All the Choroi flutes are characterized by a warm, light, flexible tone. Compared with traditional instruments, the Choroi flutes possess a tone that sounds more like a voice than an instrument. This unique tone quality leads to a corresponding style of play. A free outbreathing, rather than an active blowing, forms the foundation for the tone. The tension-free mouth and lip positions also contribute to the tone formation and the warm quality of sound. Accessories included are a wooden cleaning swab and a cotton flute bag. Regular oiling is vital to the flute. Note range: d"-e"-g"-a"-b" -d''' -e'''. We recommend the Choroi high grade flute oil, available separately below.
The Choroi Traditional Pentatonic Flute is made of pear wood with a removable, exterior tone block. The tone is softer, gentler and more nourishing to the young ear compared to other traditional wind instruments (e.g. the recorder). If you lose your tone block, we carry replacements (below) along with a bit of wax to secure it in place.
The Quinta Flute is a recently developed pentatonic flute made of pear wood without a tone block, and therefore, does not need replacement tone blocks. It has a slightly stronger tone than the Traditional model.
If being played in a group, it is important that all flutes be the same. Hence the reason we are offering both models. If not being played in a group, your choice is a matter of personal preference based on the information provided above by Andrea Lyman, of the Association of North American Waldorf Music Educators. Andrea has graciously offered to answer other questions you might have about the flute and can be contacted through the ANAWME website.
Please note, flutes are not returnable.
