Color yarn, fiber and cloth in luscious reds, cocoa brown, brilliant gold, poppy, shades of violet and mysterious grey. All can be yours naturally with our botanical dye kit for protein fibers from Earthues. A protein fiber is one that is derived from an animal, as opposed to a plant, and includes wool, alpaca, angora, silk, yak, llama, mohair, cashmere and even feathers! Interested in dyeing tagua nut buttons? Details are included for that, too.
The kit contains four natural dye extracts, potassium aluminum sulfate (alum) for mordanting the fiber so the dye can be absorbed, calcium carbonate and iron to move a color in one direction or another, gloves, mask and a manual of steps and recipes. Extracts included are cutch, madder, logwood purple and osage. With this kit and the Earthues Indigo Starter Kit, available separately, you can dye green.
Includes enough extract of each color to dye one pound of wool yarn to its deepest shade and enough alum to dye 4 pounds of a protein fiber.
Ages 13 to adult.
