Silk & Cotton Fabric

What does "mm" stand for?
100% silk fabric is measured by a weight referred to as mm or momme (pronounce mummy). 8mm = 1 ounce and 1 ounce = 28 grams. The smaller the mm the lighter the fabric. 1mm = 3.5 grams.

Stronger than cotton gauze yet airy and light as a cloud! A floaty transparent silk chiffon gauze ideal for veils, curtains, layering, draping, painting, nuno and needle felting, shibori and more. That's right, felt wisps of wool right onto it as in our Silk Merino Nuno Scarf Kit (uses 4.5mm). Finish is matte rather than shiny. Dyes easily. Both weights are 44 inches wide.

4.5mm shrinkage - allow up to 11% in length and 7% in width.
8mm shrinkage - allow up to 20% in length and 10% in width.
