One ounce of ultra-thin, web-like layers of natural colored silk hankies for your dyeing pleasure. Hankies (also called bells or caps) are created from silk cocoons which have been opened and stretched over a frame. To be clear, these are not handkerchiefs, they are a silk fiber preparation for dyeing, spinning, knitting or felting. Dye the entire stack or separate it by finding a thick part on the edge and gently lifting to remove that portion from the pile. We recommend Jacquard Acid Dyes (simmered, not boiled) for lightfastness or COLORHUE Silk Dyes.
The factory that produces our silk hankies is in the Jiangsu province of China and is a family business that has been passed down from father to son. Their main production focus is silk yarn for Japanese kimonos. They have continued the tradition of producing the silk hankies mainly to provide employment and support the local economy.
